Honestly I have never used System generation as anything more than a set of
guidelines, at best. The base system always felt a little thin on the
ground.

I took to metaphorically throwing darts at each system and figured out what
was interesting.

To be honest there were huge cracks in the base of the system even when TNE
was written. But it still has a bunch of useful bits.
