Ah yes the Ultimate Victory.
A third battle with this super dreadnought took place in the Helebore system
(Helebore/Banners 1835). The Dreadnought being faced by the outgunned fleets
of a combined Alston League squadron. The dreadnought still outmassed and
outgunned the aliied force. The major defending units were the Cause Rampant
(aging AHL class), a Presidio class armoured missile cruiser (from Delsun) a
Tamarov class escort destroyer (ex Solomani ED-13 type) and 3 Alston League
Faversham class frigates. Oyher vessels were present but these were the most
important.
Battle was opened with the allies launching a huge missile strike at the
Ultimate Victory, the warheads would not touch the interior of the
superdreadnought but might degrade sensors and fire control. The barrage was
not as successful as hoped, the varying equipment, fire directors, tech
levels of missiles etc playing havoc with the attack. A number of missile
did manage to detonate and the x-ray lasers struck the hull of the Ultimate
Victory with out any apparent effect.
The battle moves to its next phase the Delsun units led by the Presidion and
Tamarov class vessels engage the Ultimate Victory on one flank while the
Cuase Rampant and the 3 Favershams engage on another. Now in this fight one
would still expect the Ultimate Victory to blow the other vessels to atoms.
Not so! Energy weapons beging peppering each other causing significant
damage to the allies, but no actual ships are lost. Ultimate Victory
concentrates its heaviest firepower on the Cause Rampant. A hit from the
Superdreadnoughts spinal meson gun punches the meson screen of the Cause
Rampant and totally destroys the Cause Rampants jump drive.
The virus on the Ultimate Victory is obviously of the opinion that Cause
Rampant is its greatest threat and largely ignores the Faversham frigates
and the Delsun vessels. Of which only the Tamarov with its meson gun has any
hope of causing damage to the interior of the superdreadnought. It is at
that moment that fate interevenes (a botched dice roll) one of the
Favershams with its popgun of a meson gun manages to get through the
Superdreadnoughts meson screen. It causes no real damage to the ship but
does result in the dreadnought having a power plant reset. While this is
going on the Ultimate Victory's meson screen goes down and Cause Rampant
lets her have it with hero own meson gun, now being overpowered. The Cause
Rampants shot detonates in the power plant of the Ultimate Victory
effectively destroying it. With no power the Ultimate Victory is drifting
helpless and a combined Alston League/Delsun force board the ship to deal
with the virus.
Final result no actual ships destroyed but most damaged badly. The Cause
Rampant is trapped in the Helebore system without a functioning jump drive
and neither Alston or Delsun have the resources to repair it. The Ultimate
Victory is a powerless hulk, worth a great deal in salvage, but Helebore is
some distance from both the Alston League and Delsun Czarate. Its jump drive
might be capable of being cannibalised to make the Cause Rampant jump
capable again, but it is a long project to carry out so fare from home. The
