Has haven't done the math to figure out how much MW of power it takes to
initiate a jump 1 at a given TL?

I have tried to figure this out myself. FF&S states that 30 (or was it 35%) of the jump drive volume is a HPGm which may store captured energy from the black globe.

I read this also however since fuel consumption is the resource used for
Jumping not Electricity I am looking for a MW = how much cubic meter of
fuel at a given tech level thing.

Also I think the HPGm is rated in Mj not MW which seem to not
be interchangeable unless we have a ratio for Mj <-> MW some where?

For TNE,

Basically Mw is given by the Mj required divided by 1800. Ie the Mj is
stored in the capacitors over a 30 minute period (1800 seconds)

The percentage of the jump drive which is the HPG bank is 35%.

Incidently this will produce the anomaly that higher tech vessels require
more energy not less to achieve jump due to the increasing efficiency of
higher tech HPGs and the fixed volume of the things for a given ship.

For example a TL9 100dt ship capable of jump-1 requires 2% of the volume
28m^3 for the jump drive thus 9.8m^3 of this is the HPG bank. This can hold
98Mj at TL9 but 122.5Mj at TL10 or 280Mj at TL15. Strictly speaking the size
of the drives should be reduced as TL increases. Instead a TL15 Jump-1 100dt
ship uses more than 2.8 times the energy of a TL9 version. Of course the
TL15 vessel should be much safer and ways could be found to justify higher
energy expenditure at higher tech levels.

Thanks Antony. I hadn't realized the HPG was part of J-Drive already.

I was envisioning a system like;

Power Plant -> HPG (stand alone) -> Jump Drive

- Power Plant output scales to increase/decrease HPG capacity charge rate
- HPG installed accounts for the Mj needed for the maximum jump
capability of the Jump Drive.
- Jump Drive size can stay the same size listed in FF&S for easy of ship
fitting.

This, unless I am off base, should provide an over all volume savings by
not requiring as vast of fuel storage by virtue of;

- Power Plant TL improvements seem to scale better than the Jump Drive.
- HPG TL improvements seem to scale better than the Jump Drive.
- Jump Drive charge time per the rules is 1d6 minutes

In my system the charge time is fixed based on the Electrical output of
Power Planet. So as long as the power plant can bring the HPG to
max capacitance for the maximum distance the Jump Drive is rated for, you
should save on interior space overall for the ship due to not needing the
raw fuel to be present. (Or is my understanding of TL 15 systems totally
off?)

Some volume would still be needed for fuel to expend on the Power Plant and
Sublight Drives in my outlined scenario.

In this way the Power Plant simply charges the HPG only when needed then
discharges into the Jump Drive which per your explanation seems to be doing
already but is an odd way because of the fixed % of the drive volume value

Where does the reference for the HPG in the Jump Drive come from? I would
like to read around it to see what else I might be missing that may be
there?

Joules are energy. Watts are power (energy per unit time)

A 1 MW plant produces 1 Mj per second.

Or to put it another way, 1 Mj is 1 MW-sec.

To use more "familiar" terms, one kilowatt-hour (what they charge you
for on your electric bill is however many kW-hrs) is 3600 kW-sec, or
3.6 MW-sec or 3.6 Mj
