Sorry to bother everyone, but is anyone having problems receiving the Daily Digest from Yahoo? I haven't received any for the carrier question I asked. Last one I got was December 30th.
In general, I've been having problems with Yahoo for email ever since they joined up with Verizon (sour grapes from AT&T?). I'd hate to think that Groups was being messed with as well.
If I'm not the only one having problems here, I'll see if I can bring it to tech support's attention. If I am the only one, I'll just switch email addresses.
I was having trouble with my email account with them for a few days ...
seems to have cleared up now ... DDOS?

I don't normally get the daily digest, but I did notice that I got the same
message about the escort carrier three days in a row, without any changes
or additions. So I did assume there was something glitchy going on with the
list.

I should've received a digest with everyone's responses, but I didn't.
I'm going to see if someone at Yahoo tech support can figure this out. If not, it may be time to consider a new host for this mailing list.

My research today turned up that we are far from alone with this problem. And other groups are having even worse problems. It would seem that the problems with the system run deep.
I've looked up a couple potential new sites: Groupbox and Groups.io
Both have their pros and cons. The big plus for io (besides the fact that is founded by a former Yahoo developer) is that they're capable of handling the migration from YahooGroups over to their servers. It may take a few days, but we wouldn't lose all of the posts that people have provided over the years (and there's some really good stuff on here that you guys have posted) and email addresses would be ported over as well. There would be very little work that I or you would have to do.
With Groupbox, we'd be leaving all of the old stuff behind. Not that it would get deleted in the short run anyway; I know of groups that have been dead for several years and are still there if you look for them. Yahoo's new masters may decide that orphan groups should be terminated.
io does have limits on its free stuff. We couldn't store more than a GB of files (not that we do anyway). Otherwise, we'd have to pay $10/month. I already pay for my website. I'm not about to pay for a mailing list. Fortunately, messages *don't* count towards that storage limit, so we'd be safe.
Groupbox has no limits and makes all of its revenue from ads.
Google is a bad idea. There are people saying that it's as bad as Yahoo now.
When I get the time, I'll post the pros and cons of each service here.
There's still a chance that Yahoo will fix this, but I won't hold my breath. I don't think there's much financial incentive for them to do so.
If anyone would like to weigh in on this subject, please do.

Thank you, Mario, but the lists don't match. There are people who joined this list who have no idea that the TNE-RCES ml ever existed over there at Silent Tower.

There's definitely something wrong with the list. This is about the fifth
time I've received Matt's "I haven't seen much either" message. Strangely,
I have not seen my previous message reflected back to me, which I used to
do back when it was working correctly.

Wouldn't you know it, last night I got a digest that incorporated everything from February 1st through my last post yesterday (Digest #2497) talking about alternatives. Not exactly daily like it's supposed to be. I wonder if certain keywords popped up on someone's screen. I'll have to see what it does from here out.

I'd go with IO from what you've said ... only other thing is that we should
look at making sure that a search sends people to the new site and not
Yahoo, so that if they do delete all signs there under new management folks
wouldn't run into a dead end

That's why I included the link to signup - so anyone can signup. If an admin provides a subscriber list, I can mass-subscribe everyone from this list. I can even make the current archives of this list available if those are provided to me.
I've been getting double posts of my own messages for a while, otherwise I haven't seen any issues. then again, I do't get the digested version of posts here.
I'm game to move if there is consensus among the group. We would definitely want to preserve our old posts/content. It would also be a good idea if we could set up some sort of forwarding of message sent to the Yahoo group address to the new address if we go that route. An auto reply to anyone that emails it that states the group has moved and instructions for joining at the new location would also be a good idea.
I hadn't heard of Google Groups having any sort of issues, but then I manage Google Groups for an academic institution and our groups aren't on the commercial side of things.

Ok, I didn't want to bring this up, so as not to rehash old ugliness, but there are people who were banned from here that I know for a fact are (or at least were) over at the Silent-Tower list.
While those people have a right to have a forum where they can discuss TNE, I think there should also be a safe haven for those people who want to discuss TNE without them around.

There's definitely something wrong with the list. This is about the fifth time I've received Matt's "I haven't seen much either" message. Strangely, I have not seen my previous message reflected back to me, which I used to do back when it was working correctly.

Subject: [Traveller_TNE] Daily Digest
Sorry to bother everyone, but is anyone having problems receiving the Daily Digest from Yahoo? I haven't received any for the carrier question I asked. Last one I got was December 30th.
In general, I've been having problems with Yahoo for email ever since they joined up with Verizon (sour grapes from AT&T?). I'd hate to think that Groups was being messed with as well.
If I'm not the only one having problems here, I'll see if I can bring it to tech support's attention. If I am the only one, I'll just switch email addresses.
Since we screen applicants here, it's easy enough to put a message in the application email telling them of our new address.
I'm not sure how much consensus there is. There's eight or nine of us talking about it out of 334 members. A rough guess, I'd say half the list is set up for "no email", meaning they check in when they need to or feel like it so they have no idea this conversation is even taking place. Of the rest, half are split between the digest and individual emails. I could put up a poll for people to vote, but I'd be impressed if we got more than a 10% turnout.
We can leave this topic open for the rest of February (an arbitrary, soft deadline) for discussion and see where we go from there.

Ok, my first reply seems to have vanished, so let me try again.
In the past, daily volumes were so high that getting pinged by individual emails was annoying (assuming I was working). It was easier for me to review the day's discussion all at once in digest format at a time that was convenient for me. And since I'd "knighted" Tim with moderator powers, there wasn't a need for me to screen the conversations for bad behavior.
But just as there really hasn't been any bad behavior for 10 years, (you're absolutely right) the volume of email has been drastically reduced. Sure, we get the occasional spike in traffic, but it seems to happen quarterly rather than weekly or daily.
I'll switch over to individual emails and see if that works.

Any "new" comers to the list, we've had our moments when conversations were either, or both, rather heated/salty and/or moving along at a rapid clip. Getting over 20 emails a day was a bit much when you're at work.

So individual emails work for me now.

There seems to be... holes... in the internet. I have a phone app that wants to do an email verification. Takes 30-60mins to get an email from the app’s server by which time the code is invalid. But the app works just fine transmitting texts instantly all over the world.
