Actually, they seem to be recycling CV names for the new LHAs.
The Wasp-class and the larger America-class...both of which would be excellent models for planetary assault starships in Traveller, indeed I always planned to use the Wasp as the model for such a starship for the Terran Republic navy but never got around to it. Also on that list was the Constellation, which was to be a TL 13 battleship that the Terrans pulled out of a museum and recomissioned, and a missle gunboat, modeled on ones used by the Terran Navy during the Interstellar Wars.
It's always kind of bugged me, I know it's a matter of publishing to your intended audience, but I've always thought it much more likely just based on population and demographics that Terran ships would have class names like Shiva and Ganesh or Ying Long and Chang'e.
I get it that the vast majority of the readers of the material are westerners and typically Americans but if the world ever comes together under a single flag the Capital is as likely to be Shanghi, Tokyo or Mumbai as it is to b New York or Brussels.

I hear you, and as I recall, Babylon 5 did something of a better job of that. I guess it's more a question of who is most likely to build warships in the future. At this stage it is looking like the Americans, the Russians, the Europeans, the Chinese, though certainly others may yet figure into the mix, assuming they don't blow themselves up or drop totally out of the space race.
I can see the "class" of the ship being a function of where it was designed. I'd expect ships designed in Goa to have a very different class name from ones designed in Montreal.
The names of the individual ships I can see being much more culturally diverse. I can see a Kali Class ship having individual hulls named after various goddesses from multiple cultures performing a similar role.

Unified government ala UWP makes the last sense to some sort of limited
(Con)federation of otherwise internally and even diplomatically autonomous.
Probably more of a mutual defensive alliance....
