Thread: Salvage Values

4 posts.

In my upcoming campaign I want the PC's to salvage a very battered derelict.

Whilst there are two or three high value items I intend to let them claim - an MFD, a Laser and a Automed - I would also like to work out a value of some general salvage eg part of broken systems that are still useful etc.

I am considering writing myself a rules sequence for generating a general salvage value however am wondering if anyone has an idea of where there might already be rules for this?

Thanks
Did we put rules for auction into something, either the basic rules, PoT
or S&G, or is that something that kept living in my head that never got
printed?

If not, you'll have to do a couple things, decide which systems in the
ship are still remotely serviceable and assign them a "functionality
remaining" value (a % of the original price) which would be the upper
price limit if it were removed and sold to them directly, but discounted
downward if they have to remove them themselves. The rest of the ship you
use the cost per ton of the materials they are made of from the trade
rules. And you have to discount that waaaaay down if they have to cut it
up and sort it themselves. As a guide, the Navy recently sold USS
Forrestal and Saratoga for one cent each for scrapping, but they had
already had their combat systems (like the MFDs and lasers) removed.

Sorry for slow reply,

Dave that's the idea I had yeah - to set these as the ideal price then use something like auction system to handle setting a buying price.

Re Salvaging SEH or Tigress, that's the sort of frequency I was thinking. So for me there have to be allot of wrecks out there; of course allot of the 3rd Imps ships are vamps behind the black curtain.

Re Virus design and stains, the implication of the original intent is on page 79 of survival margin. The strain that is implied to do the damage to things around it was the Sampson strain I think.

Cheers for your help.

Glen
auctions hmmm, auctions are interesting things in and of themselves ...
been to a few ... it does depend on what exactly is being auctioned but
also the demand, the people that are there etc ... I've seen blankets going
at auction for US $20 - $30 and up, and I've seen a whole trailer of stuff
go for $1 ... it really depends will the house sell for $10k or will it
sell for $50k or more? Another factor can be that the owner decides to
sell "absolute" that whatever the highest bid is it will sell or will he
want a specific reserve met first?

A lot of variables happen in auctions and I've seen them where I believe
that they didn't break even on the sales and some where they made out like
bandits ... rarity and usability both play into what's happening ... the GM
will have his work cut out for him trying to simulate that!
