I was running with a modified TNE / T2300 rule set. While there would be about 25 low-berths remaining on their half of the ship only the last about 8 would be accessable because an iris in the spinal corridor had sealed preventing the area they were in from venting into space.
One of the PC's berths would have been damaged in the accident and they'd wake up kind of, Event Horizon, in this berth filled with stasis fluid and emergency lights going ape in the corridor.
Eventually the ship would get yanked out of J-Space by a star and thats when things would get interesting.
