You're definitely one of the people that TNE was a really good fit for.

Re: being eaten by a thresher, I think he deliberately walked into it,
knowing that he had caused it, and thinking that was a reasonably fitting
end. I think it was for him a bit of a grace note at the end, finally
owning up to it all, rather than making people hunt him down and kill him
or put him on trial. Icky to be sure, but dead is dead.
Yes, I agree with you about the pocket empires. If you let the Rebellion
sputter down to heat death, they're still enemy empires and don't get
along, and have not learned anything. They'll just start fighting again so
there is nothing to be gained going that way.
I can't remember much about the Spiri. I think the guys with the facial
tattoos were Lutahlens, right? I assume you have access to PoT, right? All
there is is in there.
