Thread: New Traveller Minis

8 posts.

A bunch of new traveller ship minis are on sale on Ebay. Noble Knight
are selling them. So 3 new aslan ships, 2 zho and the Imperial Sloan,
Atlantic HC and the Skimish light carrier. There is also a new gazelle
escort. These are the new minis being developed by Ken for the Traveller
Squadron Strike kickstarter project, and now seem to be available to the
general public. One downside, the minis don't seem to have been issued
to the various kickstarter backers yet.

If we're talking Ken Whitman, I have been good and properly poisoned
towards anything his hands get near.

The Ken in question is Ken Burnside, not Ken Whitman, who presumably knows that his name is dirt around Traveller fans generally.
Mr. Burnside's bio is as follows from the site:
"Ken is an Origins-award winning game designer (Attack Vector: Tactical) and twice a finalist. His designs range from teeeeny tiny RPGs all the way up to 3D space combat boardgames. His non-fiction has won the Jovian award, and been a Hugo Finalist.
He works as a freelance writer and editor in the wilds of Wisconsin, and is the principal and founder of Ad Astra Games. Previously, he's worked for Steve Jackson Games and Amarillo Design Bureau, and he writes science fact articles and science fiction stories.

He has published over four dozen products, and more than 2,000 articles in the last seven years."

Okay, I'll bite. If it is considered fair to answer this question, what is
the reason for the opinions on Ken Whitman? I've heard the name, but that's
all I know. If it's not considered fair to answer the question then don't.

I'm a backer of the Traveller board game Ken Burnside is producing. I have
his other 3 D Space combat games which this is a variant on and all have
been quite good but complicated, the last I heard was that the rules were
undergoing play testing with issues like trying to manage the effectiveness
of mass missile salvo's and the scaling between a Gazelle and a Tigress. I
seem to remember that it was using the classic traveller reactionless
drives rather than TNE Plasma drives although several of the other games
use reaction drives.
