Did it? If our FF&S had it (I think that some subsequent versions of
Traveller have retained the title) I don't recall, but we did put in a few
"bookmarks"/"thumbnail sketches" of alternative FTL drive concepts. I
remember we had the 2300 stutterwarp, a kind of Star Trek warp drive, and
maybe a couple other things. Those were mostly to drive home the point
that, with a relatively minor change in the way you characterized your
central FTL drive, you could use the rest of the book to create a universe
with a wholly different feel. And also to set up TNE to be able to support
some parallel or one-off campaigns, like 2300. Which never happened. We
definitely did intend to do 2300, and we wanted people to think, "Hey, I
could do Dune with this, or Star Trek with this," or whatever.
