The Gashikan region is beyond the established borders of the 1st Imperium, suggesting that either those borders were wrong or that the megacorp in charge of the area was playing clandestine colonization games beyond the border.
This whole region of Known Space has a lot of potential, from the Windhorn Rift to the K'kree Enclaves.
