You've sparked my curiosity. Have you picked a ship yet? What kind of campaign will it be: Trouble Shooter, Merchant, Exploration, Military? Will you be having a large crew and the PCs be out of the lower ranks with NPC superiors? Or will they be in charge of their own destiny? With only one term in a career the PCs will be young (20-22), how did they get their hands on a star ship? If you need NPCs to fill out the crew, as an evil GM I've used this a couple of times. Give a PC a NPC sidekick (picture the PC is trying to get this smoking hot waitress to go out with him when his 14 year old sister comes up to him and says "Oh your ordering lunch, good I'm hungry too.). The ship we're running is a two hundred year old Firefly befitting my favorite phrase from Star Wars "You came in that! Your braver than I thought!
