Indeed and that's where the fun in speculation on the future theological
consequences as refute the relatively modern separation of religion from
science when they were intimately linked in history and the Church being a
deliberate patron and impetus behind it's pursuit in understanding
Creation. And there's always the idea that "just because we can, doesn't
mean we should."
I think most psionics would be fit precisely into a scientific model, with
a lot of biologists scratching their heads and phenotype/genotype and
specific lack correlation to GM whimsy. Many psionic behaviors are
transposed into "mundane" moral conception, for example: psionic assault to
physical assault, clairvoyance to eavedropping/privacy, etc etc.
Supranormal theory definitely gets towards "God stuff" though the
underpinning of the psionic/jumpspace medium being an energy field as much
as The Holy Spirit, Living Force, Aether, etc. The "why" is existential
and subjective but the "what" if not "how" are observable and can have the
scientific method applied (though perhaps still subjective due to
imprecision of the scientific capacity at a particular TL). In practice,
the charismatic/tongue types are going to be all over psionics, though not
necessarily vice versa.
This does remind me of a line from the Star Wars New Hope novelization
where Obi-wan told Luke about Jedi scientists investigating the Force. I
always recall that when some folks complain that the prequels ruined the
"mystical" feel of the Force in the original trilogy.
