I will start with a simple premise that we can agree or disagree on.

In human history of warfare is are cyclic events innovation.

You build a better weapon, 'eventually' someone builds a way to defeat it.
You build a better defense someone builds a better weapon to defeat it.

If this is basically true (discounting time scales required for development
however it is important over all) then I would ask the following question.

In TNE is it possible for a fighter to collide with an enemy warship at all?
