If you want to add humans to the mix. I watched a Si-Fi show called "Chameleon" basically the show revolved around a woman raised from birth by a shadow organization (Sol Sec??). Her DNA was mixed with animal DNA primarily chameleon DNA that allowed her to blend in at will with her surroundings. Trained as an assassin she rebelled and went after her old bosses.
What ever happened to early-man? They just up and disappeared. Did the Ancients move them to your world? Maybe your world is a little tough on them and they are small in numbers.
How about Mermen, rimward of the Coalition is a planet with humans that have been genetically altered to live and breath water.
Pterodactyls, there is something about a bird with a 20+ foot wing span a 3+ foot beak and talons that could rip the hide off---well anything, that sends chills up my spine. Again, maybe the Ancients moves some of them to your world.
