Gorilla Class Mining and Exploration Vehicle
The Gorilla Class mining ship is a commercial venture designed to carry bulk ore via jump space to an orbital refining station. The Gorilla mining ship was envisioned to mine ore from asteroids in systems within several parsecs of an ore refinery.

Ship Dimensions: L 130 m x W 34-43 m x H 14-29 m variable wedge
The Gorilla has a wedge shaped hull anterior to an open structure frame which is modifiable (by three telescopic pylons, one of the pylons is spinal and two pylons are distal) in length (up to 230m). The ship has four (fully configurable) maneuver modules. Two maneuver modules are outboard of the main hull, and another two maneuver modules outboard at the rear of the open frame. The ship has no contra-grav drive as it is not intended to approach within 100 planetary diameters, indeed such a maneuver may be dangerous or fateful.
Operations:
The Gorilla requires a small fleet of tugs, fuel shuttles and seekers to maintain operations. The Gorilla is capable of carrying up to ten specialists such as belters, pilots or scientists. In normal operations, a large proportion of the Drive Hands are recruited from Belters and perform the operations involved with transporting ore asteroids into the open frame. The 2000 ton cargo module may be modified to contain mining crew, small craft, cargo, or fuel tankage as required. The Gorilla can carry up to 18,000 displacement tons of ore asteroids using lanthanum alloy tethers mounted to hard points on the hull and pylons.
Economics
Assuming a price of 50 Cr per ton for Ni-Fe asteroids, if the Gorilla Mining ship can return 1.9 billion tons of ore to an orbital refinery every 12 months, (18,000 dtons x 14 kl/dton x 7500tons/kl) x 50 Cr/ton = 9.92124 x 10^10 Cr pays for the ship 26 times within two years!
Authors note: No wonder belters go into space looking for a quick buck!! TL 10 civilizations reached for the stars, the almost infinite resources allow wealthy investors to make their money many times over in just four years even if some of the ships were lost due to accidents, piracy, wars etc.
