Yes, 6G is unloaded rating. The ship's interior structure is only rated for 3G, so the computer systems actually limit max accell to 3G regardless of payload. (I imagine Virus would likely override this as it is self-destructive by nature.)

The idea for wraping and towing asteroids actually comes from this site:

A bulk ore tug ... interesting, I see the justification for the 6G MD, that is the "unloaded" rating correct?  The tarp idea of hauling possibly whole asteroids though ... hmmm gently, gently catchee asteroid ... still hmmm innovative and this one is purpose built as an mining fleet asset ... not bad at all... I suppose if fuel were an issue they could load bladders in the bulk ore spaces until those were needed, and even refined material wouldn't be going anywhere if you kept control of things so it wouldn't necessarily have to be loaded on board right away ... interesting take on the system.

PS I'm not in possession of the books anymore so won't be trying to do a write up myself, it is interesting to look at the concepts and ideas that others have however.

So, it looks like real life is wanting to kick my butt into next week. I
have no idea how it was I forgot about the myriad of things scheduled this
weekend, but regardless, I did not manage to get around to doing a
write-up for my design. While I can work on it on the bus every
morning/evening while I commute, I’m not sure I’ll manage to finish it
before next weekend. I don’t want to keep pushing the finish-date back,
so if my design is the only one you’re waiting for, please don’t wait on
my account.

That said, a brief overview of the design is:
- engines that can give thrust of 6G’s (mostly for towing purposes)
- 4 space-bots that can take a large tarp (think fuel bladder-like
material) and tie it around medium sized asteroids (or several small
asteroids) for towing, preventing any loss of materials in the process of
transporting (and, effectively, drastically increasing its cargo capacity)
- TL15, 400DT hull and controls, with the rest of the components at TL 12
to allow the ship to be built en mass at both higher and lower tech worlds
- no jump drive, as this ship is one of 12 that work in conjunction with a
large ore processing plant that is, itself, jump enabled but without
maneuver drives (it attaches the 12 ships to it in order to move)
-Not much in the way of G-Hours of fuel because it is designed to refuel
at the processing plant (which will have an abundance of fuel from all the
ice in the asteroids).
- a cool, “flattened, three-sided pyramid” (three sides plus the base)
look to it (I wish I was a graphic artist!!!)

I have the 400DT ship designed (but not written up), but do not have the
ore processing plant designed. Anyone know how much volume/mass ore
processing equipment would take up? I imagine not much mass per volume,
due to all the empty space to contain the rock, but really have no idea.

(I also have a 1201 varriant in mind which would be just the 400DT ship
with jump drive and fuel purification, and the controls replaced with
lower tech versions.)
