It wasn't really that much of a "story," more like some habits and
behaviors he had. I'm trying to think of some actual "stories."
He used to like to tell the story about how he and Marc Miller left work in
the middle of the day to so see Star Wars the day it came out. There wasn't
much to the story, that was pretty much it. Shortly after that is when Marc
would have said, regarding Traveller vis-a-vis Star Wars, "we could do that
scenario."
I remember being at DragonCon with Loren one year, after the exhibit hall
had closed for the day, sitting in the hotel bar inside the gigantic
multi-story atrium trying to have a quiet drink with Loren, and we couldn't
even finish a sentence to each other because all of the LARP players kept
coming up to us and trying to get us to give them the secret code word, or
next clue, or whatever. I can remember one or both of us being annoyed, and
the other one trying to calm him down. I recall one of saying words to the
effect of, "dammit, we're pros, we can't do this 24 hours a day, we need a
break." And I also recall being torn between the sensation of thinking the
idea of the LARP game was cool and liking the idea of being involved in it,
and the sense of being exhausted and wanting to have nothing to do with
gaming for a few minutes.
