I myself haven't been playing traveller since 2012 or something like that. I must confess that I personally feel that Traveller has been left for dead too long after the demise of GDW. When Traveller finally got picked up, the fan base was terrible fragmented. Allthough both T20 and GT kept Traveller alive it is also one of the major (IMHO) reason that the fan base really got fractured which sadly seems to have been even further splintered by T5 and MgT.
I got one of the initial T5 CD's, but did not jump on the kickstarter for the book. The T5 files on CotI confused me beyond anything before, and it did not seem that any further editing did much help for my part. I liked many of the ideas proposed in T5, but it was like reading an accounting report from a bored accountant.
I do have a few MgT books, but that is mainly because my name is mentioned in the credits.

I hope to continue my Traveller campaign, but when is a good question. I am too busy these days with my company and I am also in the process of writing my own SFRPG.

Subject: [Traveller_TNE] The hate lives on

Hi all,

I've been over on the CotI boards these last two days (for the
first time in 8 years) to try and find an answer to my question
regarding the two vargr states: Ruler of Five and Opposition
Alliance. I never even got around to posting my question there,
which means I'm going to have to go back. Crap!

The hate for TNE lives on. Oh my goodness, there are active
threads (ACTIVE!) with subjects like "Why do you hate Virus?". And
people are attacking it for all the same old reasons. One guy who
was just discovering the setting said that TNE didn't feel
like Traveller. Another guy complained that though TNE was bad,
Martin's 1248 setting made things worse. And on and on. It was a flood. I had to
fight the urge to respond to these people or drown.

I checked the TNE section. No one had posted anything there in 75+
days. We haven't had much activity here either. SFRPG has been
quiet too. So has everyone moved on from TNE?

I heard a rumor over on CotI that T5 will have a new setting where
the timeline is advanced to the year 1900. It's far enough out
that Charted Space should be sufficiently recovered from the
Rebellion, Collapse, Empress Wave, and Black Curtain War. The tech
level max is to be bumped up to 20. Sentient AIs and cybernetics
will be embraced (someone claimed that it's in the T5 rules). I
admit that I'm intrigued, but I have to wonder if it will be
enough to appease the haters. They'll finally have their shiny new
4th Imperium and all will be as it was in 1105, except with more
stuff. Will they finally shut up and move on?
