Does anyone have any thoughts about how civil law works in the 3I.
Criminal law is described in JTAS etc. but what about civil law. I am
thinking about libel.
If there was a famous celebrity on the plant zod and someone writes a
tellall book, how would the celebrity sue.
If the book is published on the planet zod, they the celebrity could sue
in the local court and get the book stopped,an dthey might be able to
ban the import of an off-world book, but what if it got onto the TNS,
the library / entertainment data network on ships, got pick-up and
re-publish by an offworld company or a mega corp. As each world has its
own government, laws, and opinions about freedom of speech, decency etc.
it can't be practicable to sue to every world.
If you tried to sue the author, you might try to sue him on his world,
but major publishing house might official publish their books on worlds
will very high regard for freedom of speech, just like multinationals
claim residence in tax havens on earth.
Anyone got any thoughts on how this might work?
