The jump navigation paradigm reminded me of some thoughts I was having
while clearing snow for the past few hours, musing on the relationship
between lawn-mowing and snow-blowing technology. In response to someone's
(Evyn's?) post about boring (making holes in things) with
Tractor/Repulsor/Manipulator tech I remarked that there were probably lots
of applications of those tech breakthroughs that the game didn't touch on
that logically would appear throughout the game, given billions of
inquiring minds fiddling around with stuff to see what it would do. To me,
all of the incremental advances in Fusion plants, Jump drives, etc., are
all due to the overlapping incremental improvements in gravitics, nuclear
damping, etc., but since that's all handwavium it's difficult to say what
kind of pencil sharpener, snow blower, or dog walker that stuff would also
spin off along the way, but that stuff would be all over the place.
