Hello from a new member of the TNE group!

I just joined up and I'd like to introduce myself.

My name is Scott Nolan, I live in Fairfax, Virginia. I'm married, with two
small children. I've been playing Traveller since it came out. I've owned
and read every version of Traveller but haven't had the opportunity to play
since the late '70's. So it's mostly been a love through reading. This has
mostly been because my friends always wanted to play D&D / Pathfinder
instead.

TNE is my favorite Traveller setting by a mile. It shattered the
established order, giving me two things a GM (and storyteller) wants: a
well-established setting and lots of immediate chances for heroic action.
On the Gearhead/Narrative spectrum (or Simulationist/Storytelling spectrum,
if you prefer), I'm much more of a storyteller. I don't care how many
megajoules of energy a laser consumes, just what it does and how it came to
be there. One of the joys of TNE was that the gritty nuts-n-bolts were
there for players who wanted to build their own stuff, but the game was
perfectly playable without ever referencing that stuff. If I'd GM'd it, I
would have let players design stuff who wanted to, and just handwaved the
gear for those who didn't.

All that brings me to today. I recently dragged out all my old TNE stuff
and reread it. I fell in love with it all over again. I think *Path of
Tears* is one of the best game supplements ever written. I was pleased to
discover the Marc Miller was selling CD's with the "extended canon", as I
didn't own all that stuff and now I have it. I was less pleased to find how
divided Traveller fandom is (for a small fan base, the balkanization is
ridiculous) and how vitriolic are some of the messages still going on.
Seriously, those people need to get real lives. If I don't like a
particular edition of a game, I play a different one and good luck and God
bless to those who do like it! If I don't like a rule you put into my
favorite edition...I ignore it!

Anyway...

In addition to my duties as businessman, husband and Daddy, I run a
face-to-face Pathfinder campaign and three online Pathfinder campaigns. So
I'd clearly be nuts to consider running a Traveller campaign too. But I am
doing just that. I'm working on putting together a Star Vikings campaign
for my friends set in the Reformation Coalition in 1202 (or, you know, 2.)
I'm busy gathering all the materials others have written and I'm
overwhelmed by the awesomeness of some of the mapping stuff out there
(particularly the Traveller materials from Campaign Cartographer).

I've come here to listen and learn and discover what materials you folks
might have or might point me to that I don't already possesses. I'm
impressed by the volume of posts on this site and I look forward to reading
them all (over time).

So, thanks for letting me ramble.

Best Regards,

Scott Nolan
