Derek--

After I sent the message below I noticed that although the COALINFONET
page and Eric Bould introduction was on Uxi's page, it looks like the
intro was signed by you, so sorry for getting that wrong.

As soon as I saw Eric's name I had a kind of warm feeling, but I could not
add any factual details so I feel sad about knowing here's someone I had a
connection to but don't know what it was. Cue another monologue from me
about memory...

So I guess Eric was one of the early big BARD guys, and maybe wrote a lot
of the stories on that page?

I like the bits you wrote about Eric walking the shores of Aubaine, and
how TNE lives so long as the story of the RC keeps moving.

You BARD guys did a really good job. Franklin Cain's scenario with the
BL-detailed scenario was particularly impressive with the planning
vectors. I also like the way you guys cooked up your own big pot of
alphabet soup for the various information categories, Lawrence Cox's color
RC logo, etc. I have this fear that some of you guys may have been some of
the people who felt Dave had abandoned you and took the universe with him.
Sorry about that, it wasn't up to me.

I notice some names in the BARD credits that are still around, but a lot
that I guess aren't anymore. But I did e-mail with Mark Marchi a few days
ago. The copyright dates on BARD are pretty consistently 1996, did all of
that creativity take place in the space of a year? As I've said before,
I'm both glad and surprised that you guys hung around this long.

Who blew up Eos? Was that me or after me? It could have been me, but I was
hesitant to kill a clipper as they were so few to begin with. When I wrote
the PoT ship section it was based on published metrics for tonnage of
ships that could be produced, and the RC was pushing those to begin with,
even with established fudge factors, so we couldn't afford to blow up too
many of them, even though the spear carrier/redshirt ethic (of which I'm
actually an anti-fan) required us to do so periodically just to keep
people on their toes.
