Bryan Gibson has certainly been one of the best Traveller artists the
game has seen. He will be missed.
Working the graveyard shift tonight and surfing about the web when I found out that ex Traveller artist Bryan Gibson recently passed away. Bryan was one of my personal faves. You can find a lot of his work at his deviant art site,
Bryan was one of the top two or three most requested Traveller artists
when I was at GDW, and his stuff always thrilled, and we always were
excited to see the next set of work he would send in. He was so good that
it was hard to get onto his schedule, his work was in such high demand.
Having contemplated death a lot recently, I can only observe that we are
able to be here because of the life and death of stars that created the
heavy elements that planets are made from. Like the stars that made iron
and oxygen and carbon and silicon and nitrogen and then distributed them,
Bryan created things that will remain and be valued, and we will remember
him with gratitude that he was with us while we were here. My thoughts and
hopes are with his family, although I do not know them.

I didn't know him as well as I would have liked to. He was a good person and will be missed by many for more than his contributions to the visualization of Traveller. I corresponded with him a little through gaming and Traveller business but only talked with him once by phone and regretted never returning the call and building on the friendship but his reaching out to me meant a lot. I hope the sympathies here and my own sincere condolences to his family and friends may find their way to them and offer some small solace.

Having sort of an online wake for Bryan tonight with the IRC gaming group that he hung out with. Lots of good memories of his art, his creativity and his personality.
I just got in tonight and saw this. I did not know Bryan personally, and
am not even sure if I met him. I hope you and his IRC group had a good and
meaningful time celebrating his life. Obviously that celebration will go
on. Please pass on the great esteem that everyone at GDW held him in,
hopefully that is of value. I wish that I could recall some concrete
stories to pass on, I'm sure there are some, but I can't recover them. I
just know that we used to talk about his stuff a lot, and his contribution
to an article or product would always lift it into starring status.
