I was looking over the Vargr Extents the other day and the (Third)
/Empire of Gashikan/ caught my eye. This vehemently anti-vargr state
(odd how that happened so deep in the Extents - yes I read the history
in /Vilani & Vargr/) shared 75% of its rimward border with the Julian
Protectorate (vargr and humans working together in harmony - for the
most part anyway). But that remaining 25% bordered on independent vargr
worlds. No state hemmed it in.
I was wondering what Gashikan's attitude towards the Third Imperium was
once the vargr incursions began. Did they sympathize with their plight,
not give a damn, or take on a self-righteous tone of "serves you right
for not wiping them out" (/Vilani & Vargr /refers to a "Solomani
attitude" during its formation)?
I don't know if this was answered in /Challenge/ issue 49. I've seen
Jeff Zeitlin's write-up for the area over on Berka's site (see
http://zho.berka.com/data/CLASSIC/sector.pl?sector=GASHIKAN) but there's
no info there to answer my question.
If they were sympathetic and tried to help out, well, there's no
published data indicating any sort of success. If they had tried, would
any of their neighbors intervene?
I can see the /Julian Protectorate/ aiding their ally, the/League of
Antares/, in holding off the corsair incursions. But their enmity with
the /Empire of Gashikan/ would likely keep them neutral, at best.
The /Ruler of Five/ borders the /Empire of Gashikan/ on their spinward
side. As this is Urzaeng (the vargr equivalent of Aslan) territory, I
see them as interfering with any Gashikan attempt to stop the corsairs
once they got wind of it. Other than that, I don't know of any published
info about the/Ruler of Five/ or their rimward neighbors, the
/Opposition Alliance/.
Yes, in the end, it's a moot point. Virus snuffed them out. But idle
speculation doesn't hurt.
