Why am I hearing the Star Trek theme right now and thinking:
"Space, the final frontier. These are the continuing voyages of the Starship Explorer, to seek out new life forms, to boldly go where nobody has gone before (and spread out ship's AI infestation to them)"
It'd be going to new systems, trading knowledge with them for resources and other tech tricks, uplifting who it can, subverting others to support its mission, etc.

Or better yet have the players following this Virus ship having to deal
