No problem.  And actually, there *was* a reason for the tenders.  The x-boats had no maneuver drives, in order to cram as much j-drives, fuel and data as they could into a 100-dton package (this is, of course, assuming the original Trav's 60's-ish view of computer size).  So once an x-boat arrived in system, it would squirt its data into the system, and then sit and wait for a tender to pick it up, refuel it, and position it for its next jump.  I'm assuming they'd probably also change out the pilot, so the poor slobs didn't go catatonic from cabin fever.  Once again, this is all to the best of my recollection, as my books are at home and I'm not.

That's how I remember them as well, and considering the way we are continually being more and more of a data hog I can see the increase of data capability going along with it instead of Kb, or Mb it'd likely be something on the order of MT^5W units or something ... (megaterra to the 5th word units)
