TL 9 24-Mj Laser Turret (manned, no MFD)

Volume: 42 m3 (40.94)*
Mass: 46.14 tons

Range | Performance

Short | 0.1 : 1/4-12
Medium | 0.2 : 1/2-6
Long | 0.4 : 1/1-3

*Numbers in () are actual values (i.e. if not installed in a turret, this is what they would be).


so, except for roid detection, the sensors do not need to be better than 1
hex active or passive for that pop gun.
please correct me, but i do not recall if the hector (frankenstein ) had a
neutrino sensor or a densitometer in it.
i ask because wouldn't a densitometer make roid classification a huge bit
easier? seeing a rock is one thing, knowing it's relative density by
apparent size would make a huge difference in pass it over or holy crap we
gotta stop and analyse this little bugger. a neutrino sensor 'might' be
useful in looking specifically for radiation emissions that are more common
to heavy rare earth elements. one thing i can't rem in cannon, while
lanthanum is classified as a rare element and key to the manufacture of jump
drives, no other handwavium i can recall gives any specifics on it as an
element per se, like placement on the periodic, is it radioactive, is it
like aluminum in that in it's natural form it is called bauxite and needs
to be processed in to a useable state (lanthanum) etc.
can anyone point me to some info?

No, the hector did not have a desomiter and would really (!) benefit from one. They do not exist at TL 9, so they would have to be salvaged equipment. *And* it would have to be TL 12 due to the restriction of sensors not being a greater TL then the computer (which is why the TL 12 computer is there). I don't have the sheet in front of me, but I am not sure that there's enough space left (though, there might be).

I actually think it would be valuable enough to rework the design to accomodate it (any belter worth their rock-dust would have one ... at least in a setting such as I am imagining).

As far as the contest goes what I've submitted so far should be my entry as little mods like this could extend the completion quite a while depending on how easy/hard they are to accomodate.

Have you tried Wikipedia for your technical answers?

Density can be determined by putting a small probe into orbit around the asteroid or landing one on it or even just firing an object at it.

For an orbiting probe its time to complete an orbit can be used to calculate the mass of the object and since you will know the volume of the object its density can be calculated (density = mass/volume)

For objects where the orbital probe is impractical landing or simply hitting the asteroid with a “probe” will also work. You will know the launch vector of the “probe” how fast it accelerates towards the asteroid taking into account its initial launch vector will also give the target asteroids mass (force = mass x acceleration) force in this case being the gravitational attraction of the asteroid. Technically the probes mass also has an effect but can be safely ignored.

you mention some 50dton bays? there's your space for a densitometer right
