The arbitrary hardpoint limit does NOT exist in TNE, but the math tends to keep you from going too far beyond it. Surface area, power/fuel volumes, and crewing requirements all conspire to keep ships from being stupidly over-armed, while still letting you push a hull to its structural limits to help differentiate military vs civilian designs.

Removing the arbitrary limit also resolved the issues with several older ships such as the Gazelle and any design with externally-mounted subcraft.
