Article in Wired Magazine talks about an extremely detailed plan for getting humans to Mars and beyond (http://www.wired.com/2015/08/wildly-detailed-100-year-plan-getting-humans-mars/?mbid=social_twitter). It talks about how someone develop a detailed chart back in the 80s for how we would do it. A new version of that chart was recently developed:
