Nope, that would never happen. I can spell "computer," so I know that to
be true. :-)
Serious back on, it all goes back to dependence and the morality play of
people who take advantage of the things that give life, as I had some
hault-Bastien guy say in SM. We make ourselves dependent on all manner of
things as a society, and those become our weak spots for those corrupt,
cynical, selfish, sociopathic, enough to prey on it. There will always be
something. And yeah, go ahead and put all your stuff in "the cloud," knock
yourself out--someone will.
Yeah, but an IFF system? Okay, fine, the nav system, BSG got away with
that. Same general area of the ship.

I submitted a proposal to GDW in 1992 for a MegaTraveller supplement that covered the design and use of drone missiles. What I didn't tell GDW at the time was that my write up wasn't just sh*t I thought up, but it was based on stuff the U.S. military was already thinking about, taken to their logical conclusion. So when I saw the first Predator drone...I was the least surprised person on Earth next to the people who designed it. Of course now the military is continuing along my same line of thinking, making their drones more and more autonomous and better armed. Occasionally I like to fantasize that somewhere in the Pentagon, someone has a copy of my proposal sitting on their bookshelf, and they reference it from time to time for ideas...
It's fun when real life application meets science-fiction.
