I'd like to add something that bolsters Charles' argument.
I review indie and small press published books for a blog and Mongoose
sent me a copy of MJD's first "Shotgun Mike" novel, /Standing Alone/ in
September 2011. /Standing Alone/ and its sequels were intended to
support Armageddon: 2089.
I really enjoyed the story, but the editing was terrible. It was full of
typos. Mongoose put no effort into editing. I'm guessing that they
wanted MJD to self-edit, but that only goes so far. If they did assign
someone to edit it, they should've been fired.
Fortunately for MJD, the rights for the series were picked up by
Antimony Sun. This publisher edited the first novel and re-published it.
The sequel,/Standing Together/, was also published by them.
Clearly, at least back as of 2011, there were issues with at least some
portion of the editorial staff.
