We made use of the psionic transfer drive in FFS1 and then extrapolated, if
the drive could amplify teleport then another version could amplify
telepathy, psychokinetics etc. Then you have the basis for Bradley's
Darkover psi matrix technology, Babylon 5and that setup on the world above
which Babylon Five orbited. The monsters of the ID from Forbidden Planet
etc.
