Yeah, I figured you would ask that. Like I said, there is a typical rule
in RPGs about some kind of "personal space" area around you that controls
things that you can/cannot do. For example, when you teleport, you
teleport WITH your clothes. I'm pretty sure TK did not allow flight,
though, and I would bet the rules fell back on, "you can't do it to
yourself (or your clothes)."
However, I would say that your case of TK in space would probably be a
case that would get around that. Put a sufficiently massive object (piece
of junk) on the end of a rope, push it away from you (outside your
"personal space field," and start TKing it, and it would tug you along.
There would probably be a fair amount of flinging and spinning around
before you got into a stable relationship (attachment point to TK "tug,"
attachment point to spacesuit), and Ref would say that "breaks the
concentration" so the TK effect cannot be kept up.
Can this be done in atmo? I suppose. Then why can't I TK the chair I'm
sitting in and ride it? I'd need to see the rules to refresh my memory on
what was implied to be allowed and prohibited. I suspect it has mostly to
do with, in atmo people want to fly like Superman (prohibited), in your
scenario it sounds like an unusual circumstance after an accident, needed
to travel a relatively short distance to safety (feasible).
I still like the idea of the guy having to bombard himself with debris to
push himself toward safety, though. :-)
