Yes indeed, one of the dirty little secrets of FF&S AFV design. Sloped armour is almost always a waste of time!
Another good one is that it is almost always best to go for the longest CPR main gun you can at a given calibre - unless you're replicating a realworld design. The L44 120mm is a poor choice when for only a little more weight/space you can get a L60 or more version that hugely outperforms it.
