Yeah, there are some TNE design elements like HEPlaR, EAPlaC, and gravitic
focusing that are big jumps, because they are artifacts of, "what does the
performance need to be to allow us to get space combat performance the way
we say it's always worked?" Having established what was necessary for the
game to work, to get movement on the hex grid, to get a laser to be more
than a flashlight at 300,000 km, we then came up with a name and
explanation for it. Although lasers took a lot longer because we kept
trying to use real-world physics.
