Thought of some other effects the ND could have on power plants and it would not matter if it was a fission or fusion plant.
Firstly by manipulating the ND you could cause the target power plant to pulse in which case its own safety interlocks would shut it down, this would work on somewhat larger plants than the examples over at Freeport.
Secondly if you use a ND to turn a power plant down you could possibly use it to turn one up which could either trigger safety cutouts or with a particularly evil GM cause the reaction to break containment. IMTU you wont get a nuclear explosion from this happening to the power plant but the expanding plasma cloud will do a lot of damage to engineering.
The ND should also have a effect on the âfast burnâ reactor part of the jump drive (if you use that version). Again IMTU this reactor can explode (normally give PCs a chance to escape and reach minimum safe distance. Naval ships IMTU use this for self-destruct.
Also if using a reactor as part of the jump drive you now have a short range prototype of the jump dampener from MT.
Oh yes, in a TNE universe taking out the power plant also disables the HePlaR maneuver drive. As well as the drive on any vessels using fission/fusion rockets.

At TL 14+ it is possible to construct small missiles with at the fraction of the size of the standard missiles using Heplar and fusion power plants.

A missile using DIE or CLC laser technology will be limited in its capability. The cartridge size of a single CLC shot will limit its number of shots. A DIE laser fares much better. But then again, you donât have a missile, but a laser drone which you can use several times. A nuke pumped missile when it hits hits with 1D6 beams. Each beam with the power to cut through most canon ships. An exceptional subbess would probably turn this into 2D6 beams.

Of course at higher tech levels missiles may revert to chemical or direct
energy input lasers which will ignore ND defences, leading to the
introduction of rapid pulse weapons more sandcasters etc. So the cycle
continues.
