All right, to clarify some issues that have perplexed the list of late regarding certain
volumetric calculations, I've compiled the following list of proper names and sizes, and their
appropriate liquid volumes (all of which are in British Imperial units):
Pony= 0.5 Ounces
Shot= 1.0 Ounces
Jigger= 1.5 Ounces
Pint= 16 Shots
0.625 Fifths
Fifth= 25.6 Shots
1.6 Pints
Quart= 32 Shots
1.25 Fifths
Magnum 64 Shots
2 Quarts
2.5 Fifths
A Quart=0.946 Liters. So when provisioning for an expedition, one can expect about 1057.082452
quarts of liquor per kiloliter. That is about 14,799.15433 quarts per displacement tons (14
kiloliters), or 473,572.9385 shots in case you were wondering. The cost for a displacement tons of
say, rare Reginan Tequila (Cr 3 per shot) would be about Mcr 1.420719.
Now if your taste in booze runs to something more refined along the lines of brandy or champagne,
beware the bizarre nomenclature used by oenologists for large lots.
The standard unit is a Jeroboam, which is equal to 1.6 Magnums
Larger units are used exclusively for champagne:
Rehoboam= 3 Magnums
Methusaleh= 4 Magnums
Salmanazar= 6 Magnums
Baltazar= 8 Magnums
Nebuchadnezzar= 10 Magnums
Now you may ask, what about the grapa? The standard "Terran Traditional" wine bottle is 0.800633
quarts or 0.7576778 liters. 1 kiloliter of wine is equivalent to 1319.822225 bottles. If you buy a
decent, middle priced wine, say at Cr 80 per bottle, in a displacement ton sized lot this would
cost you Mcr 1.478201. By these prices you can see that the Tokaj Eszencia that was served at the
Emperor's table could just have been curdled tap water they shipped a few parsecs, and with the
help of a half-assed rumor campaign....... *ka-ching*
