Iirc missles had something like a 10 for movement which basically says if you're within 10 hexes you're done. They also did a F'ton of dmg, I recall my players gutting a merc cruiser with 2 of them.
While there we're rules regarding launch rates my players would typically deploy them way before combat became even remotely likely. Iirc the Tl12 missles had passive sensors so my players came into the habit of deploying them in orbit before landing or skimming so they'd have them ready judt in case.
