Submariners don't sound like they practice a whole lot of sword
play. Frangible ammo and shotguns, would be the rule, though
something higher tech like the Babylon 5 ppg would be cool.
That said, snake eater types would always have good knife and
machete type melee skills... Thinking gurkhas and their kukris.

Well, you want to make sure you don't nuke up and ruin the
planets you are
fighting for.

Which reminds me. CT old-timers will remember all the fuss about,
"why do
Traveller characters have all these stupid old-fashioned cutlass
skills?
And they call themselves a science fiction game. Stoopid
Traveller."

Once upon a time Traveller talked a lot about blade weapons and
snub
pistols, because when you're out in space it doesn't make a whole
lot of
sense to go running around blasting holes inside of the only
thing (the
ship) that is keeping you all alive. IMTU I made a consistent
point about
that, that you were always shooting out environmental controls,
drive
controls, power conduits causing fires, depressurizing
compartments, or
getting sprayed by the on-board fire-suppression system when you
fired
weapons aboard a starship. I even had the principle that people
would
space people on their own side that would do that for stupidly
risking
everyone's life for short-term gain.
