Thanks, Jason.
As I said in a post yesterday, it was important to me to keep some kind of
moral compass in TNE. And while I don't claim that makes me unique, I was
concious while I was doing it, that that didn't seem really typical of
Traveller before. So thanks for noticing.
I don't know if you saw my message yesterday about RC and Regency, because
I think I did talk about that, but they would eventually meet midway
between their areas and have some initial disagreements. In reality, they
would both be very similar, but they would also have some very firm
"articles of faith" which would cloud the ability to see their common cause
(like, oh, say Republicans and Democrats), and temporarily let the details
of their differences get in the way of the bigger picture. In the long run,
both stood for re-establishing a fair, just, stable interstellar society
with input from the citizens, and that would happen. But the "Star
Vikings," and by this I mean the experienced RC combat forces out on the
leading edge of RC expansion, and not all of the members of the RC in
general, would have to make some of the hard choices, using their expertise
with Virus (via Sandman, Guilded Lilly, that shipyard in Diaspora) to
defeat the Lucan-organized virus out of the Black Curtain. This would have
something of a backlash against them, you know that idea that when you're
trying to build a lasting peace, you don't want to have the people with
blood on their hands standing by too closely, and the bulk of the "Star
Viking" forces would head Coreward to deal with the emerging Empress Wave
threat/mystery. This would both get their polarizing influence out of the
way of the reconciliation, and allow them to continue to have a valid and
important input to the future, although not as part of the home-front
status quo. The RC would also have the Ithklur with them, as well as some
of the Hivers who sided with the RC when the failed manipulation to conceal
the destruction of the human planet was exposed. So both the RC and Regency
would become part of a larger restored interstellar society, but many of
the characters themselves would live on in various adventures on the new
frontiers. And in game publication terms, that would have taken five years
easily. Probably more, as we would have discovered lots of intriguing
side-trips along the way.
Is that what you meant?
