I need a quick loan to get things fixed out here, I promise to refund as soon as i get back home.. please reply asap. so i can tell you what to do and how to get the money to me..

Is your ground support weapon supposed to be dismountable ie used by the grunts or their kin? Or is it part of the lander? If so consider it part of a mod on the lander, no need for a complete redesign just a beefed up variant.

although my squadron genuinely is combat support, they were ch53 A/D's, and after i discharged E's
Uss Tarawa was a helo carrier. in other words, a really big taxi for a helo squadron to drop fightin jarheads on the beaches.
so in reference to support ships, the Tarawa was a specialized type of combat support ship.
to deliver maximum firepower on a single semi-carrier with heavy infantry inclusion. (53s were also very good at cargo as well)
so in TNE terms call it 6 (or 12 depending) assault landing craft each capable of carrying 4, 5 man squads.
assuming a 6 bird assault lander squadron and say, 6 ramparts, that's 120 men. so you get a full company with some beefy close air support. Ramparts would be ideal as they also come equipped with an emergency low berth capable of 4 men "stowage"
so, 120 men land, and ELBs for 24 men.
as i have no specs handy for an assault lander, IDK if an ELB would be included, but an 'autodoc' would be a sensible thing. as would some form of plasma or fusion ground support weapon, or even a VRF gauss weapon.

Domhanai is quite correct the next closest unit type would be Armored Cav (at least at the Divisional level) as they had a micro mix of about everything ... never worked with regimental cav so don't really know if they're the same or not.
Still ... how would we work that to TNE?

Combat support?!? AVIATION?!? Them's fightin' words, Seventh Army!
Aviation operates near, on and even past the FLOT (forward line of [own] troops). It has been considered a combat arm since April 12, 1983, when it became a branch. Sure, it has combat support and service support missions; in fact, it is the ONLY branch that has combat, combat support and combat service support missions as its jurisdiction.
In Desert Storm my battalion, 4/229th [Advanced] Attack Helicopter Regiment (Flying Tigers), flew the first ever cross-FLOT night deep attack in support of the battle of 73 Easting. We ambushed the Tawanaka Brigade in Iraqi territory, farther than Coalition artillery could reach, and after four hours flew away with 35 destroyed enemy tanks, almost 200 -ahem- support vehicles, and one camel, with zero losses of US vehicles and personnel.
Support. Yeah, right. I'm sure the White Mice think the same way ... but they don't deliberately operate in the enemy's backyard.
