You're correct, "rules" for that, or even general guidelines were never
clearly laid out by us. But between artificial grav, 6G inertial
compensators, etc., it would have been possible. But like I said in
another post, how easy is it to do it in one compartment but not the one
next to it, etc. We didn't get the detail pushed out that far.
In your second para, when you refer to "conformal docking slips," are you
referring to the way that in early books you could store small craft at
straight tonnage? I always thought of those as an embarrassing "error" (or
revised ruling) that was shoved into a shallow grave, written out in
subsequent revisions (Books 1-3 had a lot more un-documented rewrites and
revisions than most people realized), and talked about as little as
possible.
Re: tractors, they exist at TL 12, but the force they can exert and the
range at which they can use it is so low that no one spent much time on
them. Actually wait, that's not true, the issue is that only manipulators
can pull it to you AND slow it down so it doesn't whang into you. The only
time I recall spending a lot of time of T/R/M tech was for the TL 16
Darrian cruiser, but it's late and I need to get to bed. Maybe tomorrow
I'll realize there's more to the story.
