Alpha Area Denial Mine

Designed to cripple or destroy light craft like fighters or fuel shuttles, the Alpha is a very small platform armed with a Darkstar X-Ray laser.

When launched, the onboard reactor powers a 10-tonne HEPlar chamber with a half-hour of fuel, allowing 1 G-hour of delta vee for final positioning. The reactor then shuts down to a very low setting, capable of sustaining the onboard electronics for 10 years.

The unit is controlled by a model-13a robot brain, fed by a 3,000 km passive EMS array. Ships not broadcasting the correct IFF signal, and matching preprogrammed criteria (size, course etc) are then engaged with the laser.

The laser is chemically fuelled, and carries 200 cartridges in an autoloaded magazine - enough for 2 hours of firing at the standard rate of one shot every forty seconds.
