I tried a design for a more aggressive mine. This design bends the rules a little. I did not account for acceleration in the hull of the mine (I thought that was kinda dumb). The frame is built for the acceleration, (see below). How do people feel about this alteration?
The Stalker class mine is less common than the Imperial MkIII but far more feared. The mine incorporates the same programming of the Mk III but with a massive booster engine that allows the mine to close to attack range with little or no warning. The mine is a 500 kt nuclear-pumped X-ray with a 30,000 km PEMS sensor suite. It's booster package allows the mine to accelerate at 20 G's for 15 minutes, allowing it to close almost immediately on targets within range (usually less than 45,000 km). Many minefields incorporate Stalker mines (or a similar substitute) with more common static mines to keep minesweepers at bay. A 10:1 ratio of MkIII to Stalkers was Imperial standard but that could deviate heavily depending on the area being defended and the minelayer's resources. Stalker mines are also favored in places where very large volumes must be covered due to the greater volume they can cover. The Stalker mines have no equivalent to the AMDADS system and must be placed manually.
