Mk IX Sentinel Mine
design by Kyle Platte
These mines have been made to meet the joint Regency-Aslan requirements for
a remotely deployable space-minefield that can be produced at TL-14. It is a
modified version of the old Imperial Mk III with slightly downgraded
endurance. Because its warhead, sensor performance and programming are
identical to the original Mk III, the layout and deployment of these mines
has not changed. Because of the decreased fuel supply in Mk IX mines, some
Navy advisors are pushing for minefield maintenance every eight years rather
than ten, to prevent degradation of minefield strength. Fleet limitations
will likely prevent this in remote areas of the Regency and Aslan controlled
space.
Sentinels will gradually replace all MkIII minefields in areas patrolled by
both Aslan and Regency patrols.
